An opening bat and former England Under-19 Captain, Arran
Brindle smashed the world record for the opening stand in a Test with Caroline
Atkins in Lucknow, India, in January (2002) as she reached
her then-highest Test
score of 85. She surpassed this in 2005 in the first Test against Australia at
Hove, when she made her first Test hundred. Brindle has picked up the Best
Batsman Award at the Frizzell County Championships two years in a row, helping
Lancashire to gain promotion in 2001. Also an outstanding fielder, she made her
debut for England in the ODI Series against South Africa, which England won 3-2.
She played boys' cricket for Thornton-in-Craven from the age of 12. She has also
played football and tennis. Brindle won local council Best Sportsperson Award in
1998 for her county and national selection. She studied PE and Sports Science at
Loughborough University, graduating in 2003 and was married the same year.
Selected for the World Cup squad for South Africa, 2005.
