GLITTERING PRIZES

For a second year UAJCL chose the Rendezvous Hotel Malham Suite in Skipton to host its 2009 Presentation Night and again a healthy crowd attended to support its many winners and achievers. The UAJCL executive was pleased to welcome England Lions player Andrew Gale from Yorkshire CCC only 2 weeks before he flies out to South Africa with the many England squads. Andrew outlined the work and programme of the Pro-Coach Academy for the next 12 months, having already experienced a 20-20 skills workshop at Oakworth this season. David Cooper, our under-9s sponsor came along again and spoke about the selection process for District Cricket and the success enjoyed at that level by Tom Addison, Josh Holt and Shane Taylforth in 2009.

The 2009 review featured the successes of the under-12s Test Team against the Aire-Wharfe League and the Bradford League along with the Malsis Festival and four excellent UAJCL Cup Finals. "We are the Champions" rang out for all the UAJCL team winners for 2009: Oxenhope u11, Cullingworth u11, Earby u13, Skipton u13, Skipton u15, Oakworth u15, Sutton u17 and Cononley u17. The more reserved Billy J Kramer's "Little Children" greeted the third award in four years to under 9s winners Silsden.

The evening progressed through to awards for batting, bowling, wicket-keeping and fielding before each age group Cricketer of the Year was announced.......

The UAJCL executive were all present and lead the thanks to all UAJCL sponsors of course without whom the cricket and the evening would not have taken place. The President led gracious thanks for Sponsors Cricketcoachingmats.com, CartaSport Leisure, Brook Taverner, Pro Coach Cricket Academy and The Keighley Cup Committee for their continued invaluable financial support.

All 23 league clubs were entered in a Prize Draw for 3 free places at the Pro Coach Academy coaching. The winners were Glusburn, Embsay and Bingley Congs, who will select their own recipients.

2009 UAJCL Presentation Night - The Championship Winning Teams

For the third time in four years Tim Sugden's boys from Silsden captured the Cricketcoachingmats.com Tournament trophy in a year which enjoyed much better weather resulting in 39 of the planned 45 fixtures being completed.

The tournament structure featured 10 teams including new additions Cullingworth and Wilsden, was well contested with both Silsden and Oxenhope achieving 22 points, the Trophy going on run-rate to Silsden

England Lions and South Africa bound Andrew Gale came along to help present the many prizes and his first was to two-in-a-row under-11 Champions Oxenhope

The Oxenhope boys added the CartaSport title to the Barritt-Stephenson Cup and Malsis Festival trophies they took during the  year to finish a tremendously dominant u-11 year as Treble winners, well emblazoned on their sponsored tops.

At the 1st time of asking Cullingworth Cobras grabbed the under-13 Division Two title as new club entrants to UAJCL

The CartaSport Division winners edged out Steeton in their charge to the title. They were ousted from the Barritt-Stephenson Cup by finalists Oakworth Sharks, who they will meet again in the top Division in 2010.

Another club to have a successful campaign was West Craven side Earby under-13s who were Brook Taverner League Champions for a second time, having won in 2004.

They also captured the 2009 Malsis Festival Trophy but missed out on the John Hindle Cup to season-long rivals Wharfedale Stags in a nevertheless quality year.

The Second Division title was won by Skipton under-13s after a season long battle with Glusburn and Sutton.

The Brook Taverner Trophy was justly awarded after the club had taken two First Division Championships in 2006-07 and then been relegated. They will again take their place in Division One in 2010.

The Skipton club picked up its second Cup of 2009 as the Skipton u-15s team captured the Pro Coach Academy League Championship, six points clear of promoted Sutton. the win maintains the run of success for this group of players ho took the under 13 Championship two years ago.

Their only previous success at this age group was 12 years ago in 1997.

In 2008 Oakworth and neighbours Oxenhope were both relegated top Division Two but have bounced back at the first attempt with Oakworth riding out the poor weather much better to take the Pro Coach Academy Second Division title after a ding-dong battle with Oxenhope and again unlucky Earby.

Oakworth also reached the Raleigh Hargreaves Cup Final but were soundly repulsed by Pendle Forest.

In 2005 Oakworth re-joined UAJCL from the Bradford JCL and took the Second Division Trophy in that year before three years in Division One.

The run of success for the Sutton club continues apace and unabated after promotion from Division Two in a resurgent 2008.

They led the Keighley Cup2000 League Championship from the start of the season and stayed ahead to win the title by 4 points from Oakworth, with whom they had two terrificly competitive matches. It was Sutton's first Championship for exactly 50 years.

Having re-entered UAJCL after a number of years absence Cononley under-17s gathered together a highly competitive squad for 2009 and snatched the six-team Keighley Cup2000 League Division Two Championship. They edged out Gargrave, who in turn pipped Bingley Congs to the promotion place.
