THE BROOK TAVERNER LEAGUE for under 13s |
Under 13s League Report week 10
In a match of six retirements the Oxenhope innings of 118-0 looked a likely winner thanks to 25s from Spencer Mawer, Liam Humphreys and Liam Walsh. From there the Oxenhope weakness in bowling came through as Bradley chased the 119 with all their capability. Chris Rudden banged in 28 and with 25s for Matthew Price and Jack Beetham the contest become mighty close. Young tail enders Robbie Smith and Jack Andrews tried their best to bridge the final gap but they fell short by 2 runs with Bradley very creditably on 116-4. An Embsay score of 82-6 looked vulnerable to a Pendle Forest side which had been flying high in recent weeks. Nick Woodhead 30 had tested the Red Rose bowlers and Jack Wilkinson in particular had responded with 3-8. After that it was plain sailing for Embsay as all their bowlers went through the Pendle batting for 48, Thomas Kennedy the pick with 3-4. The battle of the top two eventually went to leaders Oakworth, who now need just one point from their 3 remaining matches to clinch the Brook Taverner Championship. The Oaks innings was spearheaded by form man Ben Fothergill with 27 and with 24 apiece for Matty Lee and Lewis Wrathall a 118-2 total was compiled. A good start from the Stags (Dan Ellison-Bates 21) was let down by the middle order but when Sam Shepherd added a late 20 the prospect of a win emerged. Despite some indifferent fielding and bowling Oaks hung on to hunt down all the Stags for 99.
Wharfedale Rams stayed ahead of Haworth after a low scoring match on a bowlers' wicket. The Rams Keeper Will Perryer ended top scorer with just 13 in a 64 all out total. However Haworth fared no better and their knock concluded with 46-7 being severely confined by John Stephenson's bowling 3-5. Silsden proved no match for high flyers Haworth West End who made 100-4 led by Harry Sherlock 24 and Carlton Beanland 21. Jack Roberts did make 20 for the losers who tailed off at 69-7.
Under 13s League Report week 9
League leaders Oakworth stepped on the gas against Earby with the highest score of the year with 161-3. Openers Matty Lee and Ben Fothergill both made 28 and 26 from Lewis Wrathall hammered home the pain. Oaks used all their bowlers and the West Craven team posted 117-4 in reply to help set a new under-13 aggregate runs record. Jake Ellis put in 26 as did Jamaal Knowles with Shane Taylforth on 25. Chasing hard are Pendle Forest who overcame a useful 112-5 from Oxenhope, led by Spencer Mawer's 25. Jack Wood 28 and Thomas Ryland 26 led the team to 115-2 with 2 overs unbowled. Izaak Beck with 4-18 performed well against leaders Oakworth to have them curtailed at 84-5 despite both openers Ben Fothergill and Matty Lee reaching retirement scores. Jackson Rouse responded superbly for Oaks with 3-8 and although Cup Final hero Luke Sumnall made 25 Skipton finished on 52-9.
Haworth's trip to Silsden proved worthwhile and they went back to the hills with a 9 wicket win and 3 points. Linus Gallagher grabbed 3 for 2 as star bowler in the Silsden 39 all out. Skipper Ryan Ives led his team home in 9.2 overs with 20. A late knock of 15 from Jake Parkinson rescued the Wharfedale Rams fleece from a real severe clipping by the Haworth West End attack. Joshua Holt and Jack Middleton each had a trio of wickets as the Rams totalled only 46. A much better bowling performance took the West Enders to 17.3 overs to reach their meagre target. Ryan Ives rescued his Haworth team from potential disaster with 25 out of 53-8 in the light of accurate bowling from all 10 of Sutton's bowlers. Sohail Gulbar led the victory march with 19 in 8.3 overs. A stunning debut 25 from A Christie supplemented a similar score from Robbie Davidson in an excellent 123-5 for Settle. The Steeton batsmen were pinned down but kept their wickets to finish on 58-4 with Matthew Keighley making 25. An all round bowling performance from Denholme had an inexperienced Silsden side in a bit of spin and sadly all out 18. Cameron Foster took his first wickets of the yea, three of them all in one over. The Denholme side knocked off the runs required for the points.
Under 13s League Report week 8
An impressive batting display from the Forest lifted them to third place in the Brook Taverner League; Jack Buchanan 27 and Thomas Ryland 25 leading the charge. The Bradley lads couldn't emulate their seniors and whilst Jack Beetham made 26 his was a lone effort in 46-9. last year Skipton and Earby fought out both League and Cup with the former taking both. This time Earby took the league points after restricting Skipton to 65-6 (P Dixon 23). The win came without loss with Shane Taylforth and Jake Ellis both hitting 25. League leaders Oakworth came up against a resilient Embsay teamwell marshalled and which featured 27 from Joe Holt and 21 from Ben Lowry in a 101-3 first innings. Opener Ben Fothergill 26 set the tone for the Oaks reply but a7 54-4 the odds were on the home team. Skipper Jack Davison and Test Man George Ingham though showed their undoubted class and carried the tally to 100 before Jack retired for 25. Oakworth took the 3 points with 4 balls in hand and now sit 6 points clear in the Brook Taverner League. 2nd place Wharfedale Stags were just across the burn at Oxenhope and they shared in 239 run battle royal. Batting first they made 123-2 with 27 for opener Ben Schindler, 26 for his partner Daniel Ellison-Bates and 25 for Sam Smith. Oxenhope lost an early wicket but roared back into contention with 25 for Liam Humphreys and 24 for Ellis Atha. With the help of 28 extras they got within touching distance but by the last ball they had totalled 116-8, 6 away from their desire. So Stags stay in second place behind Oakworth whilst Oxenhope incredibly still battle to avoid the drop.
Haworth West End got their bandwagon rolling again in no uncertain manner with a 150-0 score-line at Steeton. There were four retirements for Liam Chipman, Joshua Holt, Jack Middleton and Carleton Beanland to savour as they maintained their 2 point Division two lead. The less experienced Steeton batsmen tried their best but only Charlie Manthorp 20 came close in their 65-9. Second placed Sutton bowled out a young still learning Silsden for 34 but took 14 overs and 5 wickets to claim the points. The battle of the leggies was evenly distributed as Settle's diminutive John Davidson took 4 for 3 whilst the blond bomber from Denholme Andrew Wear made 3 for 4 and 25 runs. Settle, who had Peter Cook on 28, just rescued the game as Wear got into his stride and they took the points with 4 wickets in hand with 84-6Division two leaders Haworth West End went over the hill to Denholme and the home side posted a credible 103-2 with the top five in fine fettle, both Jack Harrison and Alasdair Gerrard reaching 25. The West End replied recovered from the early loss of Liam Chipman and in 16.1 overs they had their target with no further loss. Jack Middleton 26 and Joshua Holt were to the fore. Settle jumped into second place in the promotion race with a 12 run win over the Wharfedale Rams. Callum Lockett grabbed 25 for the losers whilst Peter Cook added another 25 to his 2008 total. James Stephenson had limited the Settle tally to 76-8 all for the home batting to fail at 64-9. An amazing game at Silsden had 18 wickets falling for just 78 runs, of which 34 were extras!! Two very young sides battlked out a Cobbydale derby with victory going to Silsden after defending a 50-8 score. The main protagonist with the ball was Toby Sims with a telling 3 for 6.
Under 13s League Report week 7
Brothers Thomas and Joseph Ryland with 28, and 25 along with Joel Duerden 25 helped rack up a match-winning 110-3 against fast-fading Champions Skipton who battled gamely to 91-9 with a solid 23 from Thomas Blanchard. Ben Schindler anchored his Wharfedale Stags to an 8 wicket margin over an out of sorts Bradley who managed just 41-6 in their 20 overs, having been held back by Sam Stockdale with 4-12. The Earby run came to an end at Embsay by 15 runs. Test selections Joe Holt 26 and Shane Taylforth 25 justified their rankings but the Paul Robinson Ben Webster late late show pushed the Embsay 87-5 beyond the West Craven reach. Oakworth too pushed their 111-2 total beyond neighbours Oxenhope who battled manfully to 88-8. Lewis Wrathall kept up his high scoring and he was joined in retirement by Jack Davison 26 and Matty Lee 25. Ellis Atha was top gun for the losers with 27. Oaks stay 6 points ahead of the field with Stags and Embsay playing catch up cricket.
This week it only took 8 balls for Umar Ali of Sutton to reach a 28 run retirement! The luckless Steeton bowlers were really under the cosh as Sutton easily made their 72 runs target in just 7 overs. Earlier Amir Ayub chipped in 25 but was overshadowed by his aggressive team mate. Haworth West End remain atop the Second Division but their 100% record was dented by Settle who took a 9 wicket win with some excellent bowling. Jack Walker took out 3 for 14 and Peter Cook scored 28 to finish the job in 14.4 overs. Sutton propelled themselves into title contention with an 82 run margin over a young Silsden team, who managed just 22. All the Sutton bowlers profited and Sohail Gulbar led a competent batting display with 25. Steeton registered their first win of the campaign by 26 runs over home side Haworth. Michael Parker with 3-20 held up the visitors but with good scores from Simmons and Watson 100-7 was reached. Tom Duffin made 21 in the chase which petered out on 74-2
Under 13s League Report week 6
Title chasers Wharfedale Stags were hunted down in the Forest by a sharp Pendle side, losing by 9 wickets after an 80-5 posting which included 27 from Ben Schindler. Clear leaders Oakworth were in scintillating form at a weakened Bradley for whom Matthew Price carried his bat for 22 in a 30 all out total. Leggie Jack Davison 3-0 and Jordan Bates with 3-5 did most of the damage. Earby claimed a second successive win by 37 runs over Oxenhope. Kieran Mara with 3-4 caught the eye as did Macauley Cunningham with 26. Champions Skipton still languish at the bottom with Oxenhope also struggling.
There is now a 3 point lead in Division Two for Haworth West End after a crushing 10 wicket win over Sutton. Liam Chipman stole the limelight with 25 and 3-20. The second Wharfedale side the Rams had no problem in winning the head to head at Steeton with a 9 wicket gain and they now sit comfortably in third place in Division Two behind leaders Haworth West End and Denholme. Settle finally got on to the field at Haworth and took the points by 8 wickets. Elliott Firth 27 led the charge in 12.1 overs. For the losers Aaron Putko made 25.
Under 13s League Report week 5
2007 runners-up Earby saw off Bradley with some ease losing just 2 wickets. All the West Craven bowlers did their bit in limiting the Bradley lads to 41-8. u-12s skipper Shane Taylforth again led from the top of the order with 23. League leaders Oakworth opened up a 6 point lead with a 7-wicket win at Pendle Forest. The win came with 5 overs in hand after a typically belligerent innings from Lewis Wrathall 27. The Red Rose knock of 86-5 centre-pieced Jack Buchanan with 28 but Oaks bowlers contained much the more effectively.
The Rams butted up against a resistant Haworth West End, who made 124 for the loss of just 2 wickets. Test man Joshua Holt made 28 and Carlton Beanland and Harry Sherlock both added 25s. The Dales Rams really got their heads down and led by Charlie Slater 28 and Jack Shepherd 25 along with Callum Lockett 22 they almost pulled it off. Slater and Sam Lckwood 20 were left only 4 short at the finale of a pulsating game. The influx of new players at Sutton continues to transform their fortunes and the Haworth u-13s suffered a 26-run loss as Sutton move up to 2nd in Division Two. Umar Ali and Amir Ayub made retirement in a 130-5 first innings. Aaron Putko chipped in 26 and Tom Duffin 20 in a gallant but losing 104-5.
Under 13s League Report week 4
The top of the table clash at Cure Hill went emphatically the way of the Oakworth side. Skipper Jack Davison led from the front with 26 at the helm of a solid looking batting line up. The Stags reply was unexpected and uncharacteristic in a collapse to 30 all out in 11.4 overs. Jackson Rouse bowled superbly to begin to fulfill his promise with 4 for 6 whilst steady wheeler Joe Wilmore picked up 3 for 8 to clean up the tail. Oakworth now open up an early 3 point lead and look the side to beat. A fine 28 from Jack Beetham of Bradley went unrewarded in an 80-6 total. Neighbours Embsay had earlier racked up 108-3 with Chris Wademan also on 28 with Dan Ridehalgh 21 and Ben Lowry 20 in a strong batting performance. On a difficult day for bowlers Spencer Mawer 28 led three Oxenhope team mates; Ellis Atha 26, Liam Walsh 25 and Liam Humphreys 25 on a run spree against fast-fading Champions Skipton and a 125-0 scoreline resulted. A spirited backs to the wall reply brought the Marketeers 104-6 thanks to Luke Sumnall 25 and J Laycock 25.
A high scoring Bronte derby on 'Forties weekend' at West End went the way of the home side by 40 runs in a match with six retirements and little joy for the bowlers. Liam Chipman and Josh Holt warmed up for the afternoon 'Test Match' and were joined by Jack Middleton and Carlton Beanland. The 130-2 target was a toughie and there was fight from Ryan Ives and Harry Reynoldson in their chase of 90-1.The Wharfedale Rams weren't at all sheepish at Denholme as they took the points back up the Dales by 4 wickets. It was tough on the tartan twins Callum and Alasdair Gerrard who both made 25s. The winners were indebted to Callum Lockett's similar score and the 21 from John Stephenson. A very young inexperienced new Crossflatts team made their league debut against Sutton. The South Craven bowlers Shaun Wood 3-0 and Zaheer Abbass 3-5 proved too strong and the Crossflatts innings tailed off at 16 all out. The Sutton batsmen reached their small target without loss. having made their bow the youngsters will now be able build around u-11 prize winner Ben Whitfield. Denholme 80-3 gained revenge for their earlier home defeat by the Rams 78-5 with a last over 7 wicket win. Andrew Wear led the way with 26 but was matched by the home side's Sam Lockwood with 25. The marginally better bowling from Denholme proved the difference.
Under 13s League Report week 3
Embsay posted 95-2 with retirement scores for transferees Joe Holt and Nick Woodhead. A fine start to the response from Pendle Forest was halted by late wickets from Woodhead who claimed 3 for 7 whilst Jack Wood scored 21 for the 20-run losers.
Under 13s League Report week 2
After the deluge of last week some fixtures were played and Wharfedale Stags 47-4 took the Division lead with a 6 wicket win over nearby Embsay 46-8.
In Division Two Haworth 63-1 had too much batting strength for Silsden 62-4. The Bronte target was reached with comfort thanks to 25 from Aaron Putko and 19 from the improving Ryan Ives. Silsden were led superbly by under-12 Jack Roberts who made 24.
